Not so much of a cookbook as a basic guide

I was expecting great things from this book.

The other cookbooks I have read in this series had really good technical recipes (like the Congos Report studio one IBM Cognos 8 Report Studio Cookbook).

However if you have read the IBM TM1 user guides and done a little surfing on TM1 I don't think this book will give you any major insight into TM1. I certainly felt that I knew at least 90% if not all of the information in this cookbook. I expect this is a good book for learning TM1 from scratch, perhaps cookbook is a misleading title.

I was also disappointed because I think very highly of Wim Gielis (one of the contributing authors) ([...] and [...]) didn't see many off his good hints and tricks in the book.

Poor book title; A-Z Coverage of TM1 tools.

What I like about this book:
- A-Z coverage of TM1 tools
- A good book for people switching to tm1 tool from another planning platform (such as, EP or SAP BPC)

Suggestions for Improvement:
- Change title to something like, "Introduction to TM1."
- Upload tutorial data files (csv or Excel) to the publisher website, so reader can finish tutorials
- Describe in table format TM1 menus and toolbars where applicable

Too Basic

My expectation on this book is very disappointing.
Most of the content is copied form a standard training content of TM1. A bit of rip off to write this book.
You can easily download the reference materials and rules manual for free and has better content and depth.

Other Deficiency
1) None of the new features of TM1 9.5.2 are explained or showed such as the new rules function.
2) There is no point showing integrating with Cognos 8 when it is outdated and when Cognos 10 has been out for more than 1 year

Overall this book is not worth it as you can get more details in youtube, forums and IBM manuals

decent OLED overview, vastly overpriced

As someone relatively new to OLED technology and fabrication techniques, this reference was recommended as being a valuable resource. Don't get me wrong, it's a decent, high-level overview of OLED processes and technology, but it is in NO WAY worth the asking price. Luckily, I purchased through his personal website, so the cost was a reduced $97 and I have a searchable PDF, and even then, that's vastly overpriced for what this is. Even worse if you purchase at ~$180 from Amazon.

The book is 140 pages long, but only 80 of those are actual content, the rest are appendices, like descriptions of words and companies that are easily found online. I get that Mr. Mertens must make a living, but this is not on the level of a college textbook, to which it is similarly priced. I read through the text in about 6 hours, and learned a fair amount, but it's still not in depth at all. Perhaps if you're just looking for a summary of OLED and some production numbers, mainly about Samsung and LG, you'll be pleased, but most of this is found online. There is very little technical information, and he even says in one section that the technical aspects of substrate, backpanel, etc., are beyond the scope of this book. That's fine, but then why is he charging $100-200 for it? At that price, I expect a reasonably high level of technical detail, not just a collection of revenue numbers, analyst trends, and production volumes from major companies.

If this book cost $30-40, I would be pleased, maybe even $50 for a hard copy, but there just isn't enough content here to merit what is being charged. There are quite a few editorial mistakes in the text, which wouldn't be a big deal, but for the price, I expect a more professionalism. If you want a very high-level overview of OLED technology, with an emphasis on production numbers and supply chain, this might be a good read. If you're looking for any type of technical aspects of OLED fabrication and good explanations of current technical challenges, this won't be worth the time. Additionally, there are no references, so if you're curious about anything you find in the text, you're on your own to find out more.

I'd give this 3 or maybe (...maybe...) 4 stars for the content, if it were priced fairly, but as is, not worth the time.

an indepth story that's intensely enjoyable

This story had me hooked from the first chapter. This suspenseful and exciting story had me guessing and running alongside the main character, engaged in an unimaginable journey. Pohler’s seamless writing and engaging storyline make it very easy to immerse yourself in this atypical story. She presents a well-developed history and mythology of the island that the characters find themselves on. It all combines into an in-depth story that’s intensely enjoyable while making you think.

This novel was spooky and eerily entertaining. Pohler’s phenomenal descriptions of the natural world leave you breathless while her fantastically imaginative storytelling keep you hooked. The story’s smooth forward flow pulls you in. The symbolism behind various aspects of the story adds an extra layer to the tale. Not only is this story suspenseful and grippingly entertaining, it also has a huge psychological impact on the reader. It opens your eyes to the possibilities and realities around you. I repeatedly asked myself if the end justified the means. I found myself laughing regularly. Even when events seem a bit over the top it’s still easy to see and feel the real possibility behind it. Pohler also had me crying towards the end of the story. I will warn you, however, that this novel picks right up where the last left off. As a reader you’d be missing a great deal by not reading the first novel in the series first. And it’s worth the read.

I really enjoyed the gradual character development, as opposed to a large information dump. You get to know the characters well and personally without feeling like you’ve read their biography. It all seems so natural. You also get to know the main character even more closely because you are on a journey of self-discovery with her. I really appreciate how the main character grows and an individual. Pohler really lets you get inside her head. You see her weighing the pros and cons, battling her demons, and becoming a more rounded and understanding individual (even if I may not always agree with her decisions). The supporting cast is so varied that there is someone for everyone to connect with, and for everyone to throw a bucket of water at. Everyone was uniquely yet fully developed to create a well rounded cast.

My overall thoughts? Oh. My. Gods. Could you just imagine?

A Roller Coaster ride of wonder in the Purgatorioum

Amazing to take a trip to unknown places. Going through the trauma Daphne does. Unsure of who you can trust or not.

Definitely kept me guessing and wanting to know what would happen next. This story had me in a roller coaster of emotions and worries. I was constantly in edge thinking what will happen? Is this real or part of the therapy. Eva did a wonderful job keeping me on my toes and making my mind work on overdrive. So many references from studies I myself have looked into. I loved. Excited to see what Dr. Gray will do next and where Daphne is going.

Definitely worth reading and experiencing something new and challenging. :)

Ok. Book one hooked, lined and reeled me in. I was curious to know what exactly was going on. Was Dr. gray good or bad? I was left with so many questions?

Yet know I still have a few, and wow so not what I was expecting. If your looking for a book that makes you ask who? What? And why? This story is great. I was on edge and having so many scenarios crossing my mind. So many possibilities, questions, and most of all mixed emotions. The more I read the more I was in awe with Dr. Gray and Daphne's mixed emotions. Dang if I wasn't all over the place.

It was very dramatic, suspenseful, and just sad at times. Made feel like I was right there dealing with each game and just not happy with the outcomes. Can a game so dangerous really be worth the outcome? Is despero right, and Calaban meant to stay a slave? If your curious like me you will want to read this book and hope for a book three. Wow is the state I am in right now.

Book three was a great end to the series. It helped tie up questions I had. I enjoyed how it tied in with the other books, and still had my in awe and amazed at what the next scene would bring. This series was intense from the start and continued it. Doctor Gray will continue to have you wondering and having jaw drop moment. The ending was worth the roller coaster ride. Along the way the series also helped me understand the characters more and how real situations like the ones Daphne and Cam faced. I was rooting for Both to get the ending they deserved and Eva didn't disappoint. I love the way she weaves her stories, and allows you to put the pieces together to get the "ahhh, now it makes senses moment."

I loved the conclusion, and I am sad to see this series over. It definitely opened the doors to the imagination and helped see the pictures the author described. Looking forward to more intricate and detailed stories that will lead us down a journey of questions and amazement.

Suspenseful Series with lots of twists and turns

This box set included all 3 books in the Purgatorium Series by Eva Pohler.
In The Purgatorium, Daphne experiences a strange technique to help her overcome her depression.
In Gray's Domain, Daphne helps Dr. Gray use her unusual therapy techniques on Daphne's family & boyfriend.
In The Calibans, Daphne tries to rescue the other calibans from Dr. Gray's unusual therapy techniques but chaos ensues when the ATF shows up during a dangerous exercise.
These books are very well written and each plot has lots of twists and turns. This series is a roller coaster ride of emotions and intense moments.
These books deal with mental health issues and alternative therapy techniques and might not be right for everyone, but I really enjoyed them.

An architectural masterpiece receives its due

The chapel at Ronchamp by Le Corbusier is one of the great icons of modern architecture. This book does complete justice to this great building, covering the history of it's commission, design and construction. It's a large-format book, printed with high quality paper. As an architectural photographer myself, I am often disappointed by the quality of the images in books such as this. Not here. The photographers have thoroughly documented the building inside and out, with both macro and detail views. They obviously "get" what makes the building special - it's sculptural qualities, the way light interacts with it, it's fine and unusual details and it's rich textures. The total package of this book is outstanding.

Journalist Gabor tells the story of Deming, an American statistician and quality control expert who was invited by the Japanese to help them develop industry in the 1950s. Since then, Deming's principles--many the elements of the much-touted "Japanese management style"--have belatedly influenced American companies such as Ford, General Motors, and Xerox. Deming's view of quality is significantly different from that of Philip Crosby ( Let's Talk Quality , LJ 4/1/89 and Quality Without Tears , LJ 4/1/84), who stresses hard work and allowing zero defects, and Russell Wright ( A Little Bit at a Time , LJ 8/90), who looks to individuals to improve quality. Deming believes only by understanding and eliminating variation from work processes will managers have the knowledge they need to eliminate deep-rooted systemic problems. Given Deming's influence and reputation, this is a must for all business collections. Changing Mindset

I read the local library's copy and its so good I am going to buy one for myself.
Why? Because Andrea Gabor has researched the topic of Quality well. More to the point, Andrea has given insight to the men who showed how to achieve continual improvement (Quality).
Its more than a good read, there are valuable lessons to be learnt from reading case histories mentioned. Note how successful companies can become!
Reading "The Man Who Discovered Quality" will encourage you to change your attitude towards work. Directors and managers should especially read this insightful reseach, because its within your hands to change business mindset.
You may even want to extend the attitude of Quality into your personal life.
Read it and make up your own mind.

It will make you think.

There are a number of books on Edward Deming and the quest for quality. I am familiar with this one only, but I found it a very good introduction to quality control. The author shows how a quest for quality can be applied to almost any field of endeavor. With an effort to improve quality Florida Light & Power was able to reduce greatly the number of power outages on its lines. You will find yourself looking at what you do and asking how you can improve. You will also find yourself taking notice of businesses that have a long way to go in achieving quality.

Andrea was a speaker at ourlocal American Society for Quality section and she did a great job of discussing Dr. Deming. We passed out the bood as a 'door prize'. Book is helpful in understanding Deming.

I love this book!

I bought this book because it had two of my favorite genres: asians and hypnosis. It did not disappoint. I was drawn in from page 1; it still hasn't let me go. I am eagerly awaiting the next book in the series.
