Want to really know a programming language? Read Appleman!

I found Dan Appleman's books incredibly useful and insightful when I was working in Visual Basic Classic (VB6). The same when I moved to Java and the trend continues as I've moved to Salesforce. I picked up something I used at work in chapter 1.

THE must have book for new Salesforce developers. It is the first book you read, and you will keep going back to it. I recommend a paper copy v. the kindle personally. I went with the e-book, and ended up ordering a second paperback version.

Wonderfully Inspiring as we break new ground for caring for the wee little ones in our care!

This book continually gives me direction and inspiration to be present and enjoy the repetitive

actions that are part of caring for young children.

I especially liked the phrase: Plenty of time; Plenty of care. I have been relaxing into my day

with the children in my care and know that a flow will happen if I am prepared ahead of time.

I highly recommend this wonderful book written with much love for children everywhere!

Suspense, buried secrets, and hot, steamy sex

Undeniable is like reading three books in one. With a little taste of more.

Diana has saved herself for twenty-five years for her soul mate. Her grandmother tells her that she will tell her when she is to meet the man she’s meant to be with and she can lose her innocence. Her grandmother is the only one that shows her any love. Her mother went missing and her dad is to obsessed about vampires to give her the attention that she craves.

Sebastian is a vampire that take care of the innocent. He stepbrother gets killed so he is sent to use Diana to get back at her father Frank for killing the vampires. He is also sent to find out if she is involved. When he follows her and gets to know her he can’t bring himself to do it.

I’ll I can say so that I don’t give the story away is there is more to this than just Diana and Sebastian. It sorta has to deal with the saying of “the sins of their fathers.” I will tell you that it’s like reading three stories in one.

The author did a great job bringing all stories into one. She didn’t over do it or under do it. I believe that it was just right. In a way the way she brought other people into the story if there will be another. Maybe not a series but a story of some of the younger vampires.

The story had a great plot. It was pretty suspenseful and you never knew what was going to happen next. The passion was great and so was the sex. I enjoyed getting to know about Angelina and Damien’s story. To be in love for over thirty years and to put the needs of her son first. To never know what really happened with your one true mate. To think that one of them went mad without the other.

All I can say is that some people’s eyes are opened up to the real picture of what’s going on. While some people get what they really deserve in the best possible pay back imaginable. I really enjoyed this great vampire book and learning more things about them. Also gave me a new author and read more books by her.

So if your looking for a vampire story with suspense and some very buried secrets and let’s not forget the hot steamy sex. This is the book for you.

This book is, at best, a coursework book, and not suitable as a reference.

I had a course that used this book, and the first day the professor apologizes to us: "This book isn't great, but I chose this book because it's the only book that covers all these topics." After searching for alternatives throughout the class, I have to agree. However, the book's topic coverage is the *only* reason why I've rated the book with two stars instead of one.

The book is plagued with errors. One cannot read through a page without finding at least one misspelled word. The errors are also not restricted to only spelling. There are equation errors, broken and erroneous figure/table/example references, missing information, inconsistent notation, and other problems. No part of this book is safe from errors--even the table of contents has spacing problems. It's like the authors and editor did not even glance through the manuscript draft *once* before publication.

Without some sort of outside authority to point out and correct these problems, this book cannot stand on its own. I will be shelving this overpriced book, and I will seek out other texts for future reference material. It's really too bad, because it could have been a useful general reference book.

This book doesn't cover a lot of practical stuff. As an integrated optics book, the fabrication part and the measurement part are totally missed- what a pity! Buy Hunsperger's "Integrated optics" and it is much much cheaper.

Loki Renard is a new author for me. I almost wrote this erotic-spanking-romance off as one for the guys in the opening when I came across language like "nice rack" and "butthole"... not to mention how very quickly the first sex scene took place (and where)- crass, crass, crass. And the witticism was a bit much... one of those authors in love with her own words and sense of humor and not enough restraint is what I open thinking. Typically, I find too much humor tends to completely desexualize a story.

But I kinda got over it. Primarily because flaming red-haired Lara Ashcroft was a total femme hottie, lol. I appreciated that the author made her serious and intriguing and didn't ruin her with juvenile humor. Moreover, the hot, bitchy boss thang is one of my utter and complete weaknesses, I admit. ;) ... and appeased I was upon finding a female pic depicting this author... so maybe she's just a sassy, dirty-minded... :P

This 102-page story follows a trouble-prone and smart alecky vice cop who gets spanked into shape by the sexy new chief (Lara) of police. Jenny "Jerry" Schwartz isn't too receptive to the bossy new boss, but she is quickly claimed and on they go pissing each other off, inviting spanking after spanking and some deliciously sexy sex.

Jerry is described as a boxer-wearing, short-haired, bratty butch-side dyke with a stocky build. At 5'1" she isn't much of a challenge to her taller, icy-femme chief. Being used to the lesfic genre, which has me used to 5'10", dark-haired butches and the little blondes they dominate, lol... this turn around in height made me laugh (in a good way!). I mean, c'mon... that's more like real-life anyway, eh?? lol. And it's the perfect visual when boss lady bends her little butch over her thighs like a petulant child... hilarious. And sexy. I don't know if I'm supposed to be laughing at all the spanking scenes... but they sure struck me as adorably funny. It's not something I thought I liked... but I enjoyed it here very much. Soft, loving stuff.

And these characters actually felt queer, not fakeass porn star f/f... which is so typical of these straight/bi/male writers feeding "lesbian" to the straights (i.e., gay for pay). Lara was just dreamy!!!- and her dedication to giving dopey Jerry her full attention and heart when Jerry barely deserved someone this hot just made me melt... it gave her color and depth... and the contrast was just plain fun. Loved the dynamic between these two. A perfect fit.

Overall, this writer really won me over and the story turned out to be pretty cute and fun... and yes, sexy. An actual relationship even ensued. I was pleased to find this writer has a few more lez-themed choices among her mostly m/f collection. If Renard's other f/f stuff is as lez-plausible as this, and not too wacky, with a sizzling hot femme lead... I'm likely to be a new fan. :)

Chaos and Order meet and kiss

In this tale we have two diferent ladies falling in love, we have Lara trying to keep safe a bunch of cop-punks, with a special interest in tough yet adorable Jerry Swartch who will both resist her and completely fall for Lara's charms.
Is Lara an alpha female? Yes she is. Is Swartch a sassy brat? Yes she is. Are those things all that they are? Nope, not at all. They are both very sweet ladies and they care deeply about each other.
You can expect to find one hot (and I mean, really hot) romance in these pages, you can expect to find witty dialogue and an adorable couple fighting and making up, you can also expect Lara to sort of reign Jerry in (not really and only for a little while) and Jerry seemingly resisting and seemingly subduing (again, not really), but ultimately what makes their love so strong is their ability to walk a mile in each other's shoes. They may not always remember to do so, of course, but they are both willing to see things from each other's perspective. They "fight it out as a couple" and they figure things out.
It ain't that easy, of course, but that's the point, they can handle the not easy. Here we have two brave ladies, both commited to their love, both making it work. That's real romance.
Lovely, truly lovely. And yes, super duper hot.
Fun to read too, but that's always the case with this author's stories.
Read it, you won't regret it.

Loki Renard has a true gift for creating wonderful characters. Jerry and Lara are quite a unique pair. This is a truly fast paced, humorous, sensual, well written, delightfully romantic and eminently re-readable little jewel of a book that I thoroughly enjoyed!

Id liked the book, it was nice story that definitely pulled some emotional strings at times, but often times I found myself re-reading pages because they did not make a lot of sense and I was trying to piece together what just happened. This is due to the lack of detail and fast pace. The sense of time is also a little weird, also due to the lack of detail and fast pace. It almost reads like a really long outline "they did this and then they did that and then this and so on". Very little detail about each situation. It was worth the read though.

Learning acceptance of oneself

E.M. Forster appears to have been ahead of his time with "Maurice". Indeed, having been written around 1914 but not published until 1971 - after his death - the world wasn't ready for it originally. Thankfully, much changed after that. Although the setting is clearly dated to the period it was written, the characters, ideas, and feelings represented are timeless. It very effectively conveys struggling with one's own identity, learning to love one's self and searching for another to love.

Maurice is a young man who grows up in England before World War I realizing he is different from other men. He discovers he is attracted to other men and - like many others in his circumstances - goes through a rough time reconciling himself with this fact. While in school at Cambridge, he meets Clive whom he quickly finds out is of a similar nature. The two men have a short-lived romance that's almost entirely platonic, as dictated by Clive. Left forlorn, Maurice continues to struggle with his own nature and even consults physicians about what can be done to make him attracted to women, a condition which Maurice still associates with normalcy. Eventually he meets Alec, a gay man who is in some ways more comfortable with himself but at the same time seems more willing to deny his nature. The two men challenge one another's thinking and ultimately have a huge effect on each other's futures.

Love Ultimately Prevails

I saw the film "Maurice" long before I read the book. As delightful as the movie is, the book is even better, because we are able to get into the thoughts of the characters and the mind-set near the turn of the 20th century. At first, I did not like Forster's writing style; it's almost too economical, occasionally cryptic. Many times the prepositional referent isn't altogether clear, creating unnecessary ambiguity. Moreover, a lot of the jargon is particular to second-decade England, not to current U.S readers. But as the story picks up momentum, the economy of style turns almost poetic, and the linguistic particularities fade, making this novel into a real page-turner.

The story and the characters are highly realistic, even by today's standards (though written in 1914). There's the common issue of the conflict with "coming-out" gay vis-a-vis the desire to be "normal," which as Forster concludes, is essentially one and the same, regardless of nature's impulses. While to be gay is ultimately to be normal, it is not without its social and personal prejudices and misunderstandings, particularly at the time this book was written. Likewise, Forster demonstrates that gay people can (and most often do) lead quite normal, happy, even transforming lives, despite these difficulties. This is what gives the novel its joy.

Above all, this is a typical story of the vicissitudes of love, the only difference being that it involves three men (and several secondary women). One man (Clive), while thoroughly enjoying his same-sex love, ultimately represses it to make himself socially acceptable, politically viable, and personally miserable. Another man (Maurice), initially thinks he has to do likewise, but he cannot suppress the insuppressible, and finally does the inevitable and heeds his nature's call. The third man (Alec) discovers his unique love, and while initially angry that his love isn't immediately reciprocated, comes to love the man who really does love him after all. In many ways, this is the ultimate "homosexual" novel, but in many other ways, it is also the universal romantic novel.

Beyond the obvious love story, Forster weaves in various themes and ideas of the times (that are still with us). For the perspicuity in incorporating these themes and how they relate to being a human being first, and being gay second, Forster makes for a most satisfying reflection and examination of perennial issues. Not only is the single most important emotion, love, addressed in all its complexities, but so are certain theological, psychological, philosophical, business, and political nuances addressed. The whole enterprise is exceptionally satisfying. A novel worth anyone's time.
